Step 1: Preparing a Coding Strategy

1) Short and unique variable names are typed in to tally on original datasheet.

2) The appropriate measure is then changed for each variable, in this case, nominal for ID, year, gender, and scale measure for total scores and for each question. 

3) Long labels are written as reference to understand each variable better.

4) Value labels are added to indicate, for example, 1 for Male, and 2 for Female.
