Step 4: Screening, Cleaning, and Preparing Data

1) Frequencies function can be found in Analyze > Descriptive Statistics > Frequencies.

2) Frequencies box appeared and wanted variables are moved into the Variable(s) box to check for any data entry errors.

3) Frequencies outputs produced after pressing 'OK'. The output indicates that there are no missing values.

 4) After screening the data, we decided it would be better to change the value labels for Loneliness scale, from 1 = True and 2 = False, to 1 = True and 0 = False.

5) Therefore, the data have to changed to, where we changed the value of False from 2 into 0.

6) Certain items needed to be recoded as they are reversed scored.

7) New Variable names were typed in.

8) Old and New Values button was pressed to change the values from 1 to 0 for some reverse scored items in Loneliness scale.

9) Pressed Continue > OK. Labels are written for reference, label values are changed, and measure was also changed.

10) Step 6 was repeated but this time, with reverse scored items in Self-Esteem scale.

11) Labels were written for reference, value labels were keyed in, and measure was changed.

12) This is how our data looks like after we have screened, cleaned, and prepared the data.
